Luzern
Today my Host mum and I went to Luzern. It is such an amazing city; it actually reminded me of home. It is situated on a lake and has mountains in the background, a bit like how Hobart is on the river with the mount Wellington in the back.
The difference with Luzern however is it is very old, like Middle Ages kind of old.
It also has a gorgeous wooden bridge over a narrow part of the lake. It is so beautiful and looks like a fairytale bridge, there were even Swans swimming around.
As you walk along the bridge there are usually old pictures, however today there were festival posters covering the pictures. My favourite had a picture of a kangaroo with the band in its pouch.
After a walk around the old part of town my host mother and I decided to go on a little boat trip around the lake. The best thing was that with our GA (travel pass)meant it cost us nothing (so thankyou again Swiss Rotary) . The trip was just amazing; there were huge Alps in the background and small green hills with little Swiss houses in the foreground. It really was a picture perfect cruise and day. The sun was out and it was a clear crisp winter day. I was told by many that today was more like autumn or early spring than winter, however I though that this was great as today was the best day for a boat trip. And as I said the view really was spectacular.
After our boat trip we went and met up with one of my host mum's friends. She then showed us some nice places around the town and we had a coffee on the side of the river. She then took us to a building that like many of the other buildings in Luzern was painted. This one was different however as it was not painted with a biblical or traditional Swiss scene, it was painted with a festival scene. This looked almost scary in it’s vibrant and powerful manner
Next stop was the festival. Today was not a big day in the festivals program. The big days are more on the weekend, however seeing as I miss out on this as I am on my Rotary winter weekend we saw the warm up acts and the battle of the bands I guess you could call it in the market place instead. This really was great and I think was just as nice as the big Festival days .Possibly even better as we could get up close to the big bands and have a good view The costumes and music are so entertaining. The big band sound is so tremendous and I love the feel of the drums vibrations going through my body.
