Dinner at my Counselor's
Last night I had dinner at my Counselor and her Husbands house. She is Swiss and he is from Finland. There house was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. It is about 300years old and is such a "Swiss house". We had meat on stick that was cooked in the open wall fire place. That's how old and special this house was. One of the reasons that I went there was to have a nice time with my counselor and the other was to meet a Ex exchange student from New Zealand who had come to Switzerland in 2004. She was really nice and we had many good chats about Switzerland and all of the differences and how she found the whole experience. SO on to the food. I guess it is almost a tradition for me to tell you all what I ate so here goes. First course we had salad and really nice bread. The Salad ingredients were all in little individual bowls on the table so it was a bit like a buffet of picking what you wanted. I tried everything. I had beetroot , corn, lettus, tomato and shredded celery in some sauce thing that was rather nice. Next was the meat on the stick. So we had heaps of meats and sausages all cut up and put on a stick thing. Really good. I also had some mustard fro Finland on my sausage. It was also very different and rather nice. Before dessert my counselors son came home. he is about 23 I would say and was really nice. He gave us both a DVD of a movie he and his Friends made for fun. The New Zealand girl had translated it into English for the subtitles when she was in Switzerland in 2004. SO I now have a copy of "Bames Jond".I have not yet watched it, however it looks like good fun. Dessert was so good as we had heaps of different cakes. I had a wonderful time and really like my counselors. They may take me snow boarding one time as their son is a Snow boarding instructor in his spare time. How good is that.
Today I have my Language class in the Zoo. We are learning the names of all of the animals.

The house sounds amazing, Angela, especially the fireplace in the wall!! I hope you have some photos. Do please askthe NAMES of the different dishes you are enjoying....I find it interesting, and we can all learn some German words together.

What fun at the zoo!! What is kookabura in German??? Remember how we used to got through the sounds animals make and the words used for this in English with the Japanese students who have stayed with us? I wonder what the animals 'say' in German?
